The Profound system delivers precise temperatures to the deep layers of your skin, exactly where energy delivery is most beneficial. This energy breaks down tissue in order to trigger your body’s natural healing process, stimulating your body to naturally create new elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid to revitalize the skin and build new, healthy tissue.

The device combines two key factors in skin rejuvenation, firstly the use of long insulated needles. Secondly delivery of controlled heating via radiofrequency. Controlled and precise heating is delivered to the dermal layer of skin. This heats collagen for a fraction of a second, causing immediate collagen contraction & secondary delayed collagen stimulation.

Collagen stimulation is mediated via your immune system occurring immediately after the procedure, but maximal at 3-4 months after the event.

Total healing time depends on each individual patient. It is best to not plan any important events 1-2 days after the procedure. Most people are able to return to work the day after treatment. Most patients should expect the following:

• Day 1: Mild to moderate redness, similar to a sunburn. Possible mild swelling, bruising and slight pin point bleeding. Your skin may feel tight and warm.
• Day 2: Fading but some persistent redness easily covered with makeup. You may note skin dryness and slight flaking.
• Day 3: Most redness, any bruising and swelling should be nearly gone.
• Many patients completely recover within 24 hours. If you had your neck treated, it may take longer to heal. If you have a darker skin type, pigmented areas may darken before they grow lighter.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

• Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
• Avoid retinol and glycolic acid products for one week prior to your treatment.
• Have your Valtrex prescription filled and take starting 1 day before the treatment (if necessary).
• Wait 2 weeks after Botox injections and 4 weeks after fillers before your IPL treatment.
• Shave the area if there is hair. If you have a beard, trim to what would be equivalent to a "2 day shadow."
• Drink plenty of water starting 1-2 days before treatment. The procedure tends to dry out your skin.

THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT

• Wear or bring a button-down shirt so as not to pull anything over the face after treatment. 
• Arrive to your appointment clean faced without make-up 30 minutes prior for numbing of the area. 
• Allow 1 hour for your appointment.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

• After treatment, you will experience redness, swelling or, after a few days, a bronzed appearance. Most swelling will be noticeable on the first morning after treatment. Swelling usually lasts two to three days. 
  • Apply cold compresses to the area for 10 minutes of every hour on the day of treatment, until bedtime, if needed.
  • You can take an antihistamine to also minimize swelling.
• Noticeable pinkness over the next few weeks. Most resolves during the 1st week. A rosy "glow" can remain several weeks. Heat sensation can be noticeable for 1-3 hours following your treatment.

Some people can see results 3-4 months after 1 treatment. Regardless of your concerns, we recommend starting with a minimum of 3 sessions. For best results sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. With as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve your skin's overall laxity, tone and texture.

Microneedling should not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s); open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s); an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant, or nursing; or are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane).
