VI PEEL (Chemical Peel)

Frequently Asked Questions

The VI Peel is a medical-grade chemical peel designed to improve the tone, texture, and clarity of the skin while addressing common concerns such as fine lines, acne, scarring, and hyperpigmentation. It is suitable for all skin types and can be safely used on the face, neck, and décolletage.

Unlike superficial peels, the VI Peel penetrates deeper layers of the skin to promote collagen production and accelerate cell turnover. The result is smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin with minimal downtime.

The VI Peel uses a unique combination of powerful ingredients, including trichloroacetic acid (TCA), retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, and vitamin C. These ingredients work together to exfoliate dead skin cells, stimulate collagen production, and reduce pigmentation irregularities.

After application, the peel penetrates the skin to break down damaged cells and encourage the growth of fresh, healthy skin. The process also helps to unclog pores and even out skin tone, making it an effective treatment for acne scars, sun damage, and age-related discoloration.

The VI Peel is generally very safe when performed by a trained provider. Most patients experience mild redness, tingling, or a warm sensation during and shortly after treatment. Light peeling, flaking, or dryness may occur over the following days as old skin sheds and new skin emerges.

Rare side effects can include prolonged redness, irritation, or temporary darkening of pigmentation in sensitive areas. These risks are minimized when proper pre- and post-care instructions are followed. Your provider will review your skin history and discuss any contraindications to ensure the treatment is safe for you.

 BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating products, and certain medications as directed by your provider.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup or heavy skincare products.
  • Your provider may recommend a gentle cleanser or a specific pre-peel regimen to prepare your skin for optimal results.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • If possible, come with a bare face—no creams or makeup.
  • Pre-treatment photos will be taken.
  • You may experience a slight stinging or tingling sensation as the peel works.
  • The peel will remain on your skin for several minutes before being neutralized or allowed to process naturally, depending on your skin type and goals.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Follow the aftercare kit instructions provided by your provider.
  • Do not apply any products—including makeup or SPF—for 6–8 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 7 days.
  • Avoid exfoliating acids (lactic, glycolic, mandelic, salicylic, retinols, tretinoins) and heavy creams for 2 weeks post-treatment.
  • Redness and itchiness are normal and expected.
  • Peeling typically begins around day 3. Do not pick or pull at your skin to prevent scarring.
  • It’s highly recommended to use the products suggested by your aesthetician for the next 2 weeks.
  • For best results, pair your treatment with the SkinBetter Science and Hydrinity products recommended by your provider.

Many patients notice improvements in skin clarity, texture, and tone within 7–10 days after the peel. Full results, including reduced fine lines, improved pigmentation, and smoother skin, generally become apparent within 2–4 weeks as the skin continues to heal and regenerate.

For ongoing maintenance or more dramatic improvement in acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, or sun damage, your provider may recommend a series of VI Peels spaced several weeks apart.

The VI Peel is ideal for anyone looking to improve skin tone, reduce fine lines, combat sun damage, or treat acne scars. It’s safe for all skin types and can be used on various areas of the face, neck, and décolletage.

It may not be suitable for individuals with certain skin conditions, open wounds, or active infections in the treatment area. A consultation with your provider is the best way to determine if the VI Peel aligns with your goals and to customize the treatment for your skin’s specific needs.
